Forefoot pain is pain specific to the ball of the foot area (including the top and bottom of the foot) . This is also known as metatarsalgia. There is wide range of conditions that can cause forefoot pain. Some of the most common conditions are:
- Morton’s neuroma
- Big toe osteoarthritis
- MTPJ synovitis
- Plantar plate tear
- Stress fracture
- Intermetatarsal bursitis
- Hammer toes
- Bunions
Most type of forefoot pain can be diagnosed clinically with a physical examination involving a range of clinical tests supplemented with diagnostic ultrasound which is what we provide as part of the initial consultation. This is particularly useful for getting the right diagnosis and differentiating your condition from other causes of forefoot pain.
